Also, about how much HD space is used? I would probably want TeX and a dvi viewer and fonts for the dvi viewer. It depends... My ST-TeX (TeX version 2.1) eats about 720K RAM, It is fast, but some of it's defined arrays are too small; font array is absolutely too small. So, I can run my TeX from gulam in my 1Meg ST. The distribution I got eats about 4 meg diskspace, but I have carried some more stuff into my TeX partition (totally 7.5Meg) and it eats now about 6Meg. If you get a pd TeX (like CommonTeX) and version under 2.99 you can run it in one Meg (not sure..) but there are versions for 2 and 4 meg systems as well. (new) TeX 3.0 (3.1) needs more memory. If I remember correctly, you can run new TeX in 2Meg, but... well, better not to say any more: I'm not sure about things here.. In general: My ST-TeX's manual says something like: " A wizard can make ST-TeX run with a single DD floppy... ". You can cut the disk usage under 2 Meg, but then there is not much you can do with your TeX. It's not hard to make your TeX system use much more than 10Meg disk space and thats what I'm gonna do as soon as get a bigger hd...
