Many respondants said that it's pretty hopeless to try and use the built in controller. They recommended scrapping the old drive and controller by running the computer's set-up program and telling it "no hard drive." Then, I would install my new controller and HD, and initialize it. I was warned to make sure that the controller had a power connector, since the 30-286 can't provide my drive with power. Another individual upgraded his machine without hogging up a slot. He got a hard drive from Procom Techonlogy in Costa Mesa, CA. He stepped up to 42MB and is very happy with it's performance. Most respondants recommended SCSI technology. However, one individual recommended using an IDE drive. I understand IDE is relatively new, so I'll be looking closely at that option. By the way, my PS/2 currently has a Seagate ST-125L 20MB drive. It's connected to the motherboad via a 44 pin connector. Thanks to all who responded! -Marc. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc C. Gabriel '93 - U.C.
