Even if sampling at 55Mhz, that's a period time of around 18usec.
That's a yawner for even most 8 bit machines. The 6309 was also a
faster version of the 6809 (3MHZ vice the 68B09 @ 2MHZ or 6809 @
1MHZ), and it was CMOS as well, if I recall correctly.
