I've heard of this occuring many times with Disk Express II.My father had
it 
happen-and ended up having to reinitize his hard drive. I've hear of quite 
a few people having the same thing happen. I don't know if it is Disk
Express or not-but I won't use it -and my dad quit using it too. 
 Try Mac Tools Opitmizer-it works great & will prioitize the applications
too.
