The problem is with TeX's bitmap fonts. These are simply scaled to about 50% of their normal size, via postscript, and the bitmaps come out looking like washed-out crud. Now I know that if these were outlines then the fonts would look good (I've seen postscript documents scaled to 25% of normal size, and they are still highly legible at 300dpi because of the outline font mechanism). Are there outline postscript versions of the TeX fonts available? Is there a dvi2ps-type program that will take advantage of these fonts? Please respond via email since I seldom read this notesfile.
