Am unfamiliar with PS/2 AIX 1.2, but if the Sun administrator will grant you 
an unprivileged Sun signon, perhaps something like the following might work:

   o Permit the unprivileged Sun signon to rsh as root to the PS/2(/.rhosts)

   o on the Sun: rsh ps2 -l root /etc/dump ... | dd obs=... of=/dev/rmt...
