I've come across rpcgen on serveral UNIX boxes recently but have been told
third hand that its not really usable. Does anyone have first hand reports
to relate on rpcgen before I ask my students to use it?

[For those who don't know rpcgen is a protocol compiler that supposedly
hides some of the nasty details of remote procedure calls from the
application programmer].
