(HW details: DTK motherboard, 8 Mb RAM, EGA display, 5 1/4" floppy, Seagate 4096 (80 Mb) MFM drive, QIC-02/24 tape drive.) The symptoms are that after performing a simple, full installation, Xenix's clock runs without being initialized by the hardware clock. Worse, lpsched is not running, even after doing a "mkdev lp". I can get the clock to work ok by running the command "date `/etc/setclock`", but after I run /usr/lib/lpsched, the scheduler is STILL NOT RUNNING. Nowhere during the installation or subsequent use of the system do I receive a single error message! What is really strange about this is that I have previously installed the same release of Xenix (from the exact same release disks, no less) on this machine with no problem. As far as I can tell, I am performing the exact same method of installation now as I did before. Help! What is going on??? (please respond by email, if possible, and use the address below.)
