Message-ID: <677.27634399@venus.ycc.yale.edu> Date: 10 Dec 90 13:13:12 GMT Organization: Yale Computer Center (YCC) Lines: 29 I run Windows both on a desktop colour 286 and a laptop LCD 386SX (Tandon, WONDERFUL machine!). I have Screen Peace installed on each machine. However, most SPX programs blank the screen to black which, of course, is exactly the opposite of what you want on an LCD, where keeping a pixel black is what costs you, both in terms of power usage and wear and tear on the screen! For this reason, the only SPX I've found that I can use is PUZZLE, which just shuffles the screen, but doesn't try to make it black. a) Can someone recommend any other SPX's which don't suffer from this problem (I believe I have all of those posted so far). b) Would it be possible for authors of SPX programs to allow another checkbox in the dialog to toggle between LCD and regular phosphor modes? Or is this something that the author of Screen Peace would have to do? (I can't recall - it's been quite a while since I looked at the programming interface to Screen Peace). I don't have MSC or the SDK (I use Actor) so I can't do the job myself. I should add that the keyboard command to reverse the screen is unavailable under Windows. Also, having to toggle back and forth would wake up Screen Peace, defeating the purpose.... ======================================================================== OBRIEN%OBRIEN@YALEVMS Jim O'Brien, Dept. of Chem.
