Everyone indicated that I should use the patch provided by ntakahas@is.tsukuba.ac.jp. My problem however is that I am mounting all my files via afs and attempting to recompile Xsun is proving not to be so easy. So if someone could see their way to sending me an appropriate binary for Xsun or tell me where I can ftp one from, I would appreciate it very much.
