Here are some things to consider in the debate.
According to Morton Hunt in SEXUAL BEHAVIOR IN THE SEVENTIES, 
monogamy was the exception throughout most of human history.

Also, up until the AIDS epidemic changed a lot of behavior,
80% of ALL married women and men became involved in *some*
extramarital sexual activity by the 5th year of marriage in
the US.

Extramarital activity is a pretty big modification of 
monogamy.
