How many people would be willing to do that? Nobody >I know, that's for sure. I know a lot of people who are willing to >make big sacrifices to guarantee their OWN freedom of expression >(including me), but who really, truly cares whether someone else >has all the same freedoms? Well, I think it depends on what the person has to say. Sure, most people think *everyone* should have the right to say anything they want, within reason. But I'm sure as hell not going to support someone's right to free speech if they say something I strongly disagree with. I still think they should have it, but *I* am not going to expend any of *my* energy, time, or money to help them keep it. If I don't agree with them, I would rather they shut up. I think most people feel this way. >How many of us with all our wonderful respect for freedom of choice >and expression would really care to give our lives to guaranteeing >that Fundamentalist Christians will have the right to practice their >faith? Many people here will say what a terrible thing it is for a >homosexual to be insulted in the media, and stand by silently when >a Fundamentalist Christian gets the same thing. Well, that's because most people on the net are too busy trying to come across as Politically Correct [TM], rather than saying what they really feel. I have *never* seen anyone on the net, male or female, say they think women should be "barefoot and pregnant", or something along those lines, but I know that someone on the net must feel that way. I have only seen one person bash homosexuals (Ted, where are you?) that really meant it (all faggots must die posts not included) and he was pretty much nuked. Of course, there are other people on the net that would agree with Ted, but noone would post it. >Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Organized Religion. But if a >person gets on the NET and wants to bash homosexuals, everyone will >try to stop them. If a person wants to bash Fundamentalists, it's >open season. Why? It's because Fundamentalists are not a minority that has been declared "discriminated against". There are laws protecting black people, women, homosexuals, and many other minorities. So, noone can go on the net and say they "hate niggers", "think women should stay in their place", "hate gay faggots", and other such things. One cannot go on the net and cut down Jews. That's because Jews have been persecuted in the past, and it would be considered discrimination. Christians have been persecuted, but not to the extent the above listed people have, and certainly not in recent times to that extent.
