I try to do C-x C-n to set a goal column. Now I'm getting beeps and my command line says: "Please type y, n, or space" Well, first you didn't check (C-h l) to see what you actually typed, rather than what you thought you typed, otherwise you'd have discovered that you typed C-x n rather than C-x C-n.
