We had very similar problems setting up a UUCP connection - We had no problems when we were in master mode, but we were always getting bad reads in slave mode. It turned out that our modem was set for XON/XOFF flow control, and there was an XOFF character in one of the packets we were sending, so incoming data was held by the modem, and it timed out. Our modem required us to set about 3 parameters before XON/XOFF was disabled entirely - some modems have parameters covering XON/XOFF passthrough, etc. -- Conrad Bullock, Domain: conrad@cavebbs.gen.nz The Cave MegaBBS, BBS Ph: + 64 4 643-429 Wellington, New Zealand.
