    i can't seem to ping uunet.uu.net through the internet anymore.  does
    anyone happen to know where in the world it went?

Which address are you trying?  I've seen two floating around for some time - 
their old class C (192.48.96.2) and a class B (137.39.1.2) that seems to be
on AlterNet (makes sense).  ping only tries the first address it gets,
which on my host is the class B.  I can't reach it, I suspect because it's
on AlterNet and I'm not.  Haven't had that confirmed yet, though.  The
class C address pings fine.
