Your terminology is very loose and misleading. Don't you mean that you selected the *browse* tool (the pointing finger which becomes an "I-beam" when it's over an unlocked field), and then you put the insertion point in a field and typed? The way you stated it, the only thing you could be typing is a new name for the field in the "Field Info" window. Not trying to flame you, but it's hard to know what you're asking. I strongly suspect that you have this field set to "shared text"; if so, you will be able to edit its contents only if you are in the background layer; if you don't want the same text on every card, turn off the shared attribute. Another possibility is that you simply have the field locked, in which case unlock it.
