To actually check/repair /dev/hd4, which is mounted as root, you must 1. boot from diskette. 2. select maint. mode 3. type /etc/continue hdisk0 exit (replace hdisk0 with boot disk if not hdisk0) 4. now fsck /dev/hd4 -- Marc Auslander
