I have a 286-based machine with EGA and 1MB of memory. Everything went smooth in the installation process, and when I was prompted to reboot the machine, I did but my system halted. I had to push the reset button since a soft reboot did not do it. I read the manual, and I tried to change the parameters to smartdrv, himem, but no effect was noticed. I disabled the ega.sys that comes with windows, but that did not help either. The only way for me to run windows is to use the /i option that instructs windows to bypass hardware detection phase. I tried to enforce the standard mode when no luck. BTW I have a microEnhancer Everex EGA card. Suggestions are appreciated. Please send email to elassaad@csl36h.csl.ncsu.edu. Thanks a lot, Shauki
