I want end up with a Hayes 9600 Ultra or comparable modem. The Hayes Smartmodem is supposed to be a better a modem modem than the Ultra (right Tony?) but its not really suited for my use. It has a 4 line-lcd display and can be completely programmed/configured in both synchronous and asynchronous modes! It also has the ability to operate in a leased line environment, what it doesn't have, is V.42 or MNP error checking although it does have the trells encoding under V.32. Basically I was sold the wrong modem and now want a lesser modem in the same product line. Its too bad that Hayes doesn't have a trade-down program...
