Although I've just posted the patches for the Sun 4, I thought I'd pass the following along as well. MIT Scheme 7.1 is very close to release -- we plan to make it available before the end of the year (yes, that's only a few days from now!), as a beta test for a small variety of architectures. Specifically: HP 9000 series 300/800, HP-UX 7.0 Sun 3/4, SunOS 4.1 DECStation 3100/5100, Ultrix 4.0 Native-code compilation is supported on all of these machines except the Sun 4 (there are no plans to port the compiler to that machine). More architectures will follow in the near future, and in particular we plan to revive the Vax implementation. For this release, we are committed to a short period of beta test, to be followed by a full release sometime in the first quarter of 1991. Once the software is fully released, it will be possible to obtain it on tapes from us for $200. The new release features full compliance with R3.99RS, particularly arithmetic, plus significant improvements in several other areas. The reference manual has been completely revised, and there is a new user's manual. All of the manuals are written in Texinfo, and are available in source, DVI, PostScript, or info format. In a few days I will make a formal announcement, at which time this release will be available by anonymous ftp.
