Those of us who provide services to that (rather large) contingent can either try to force them to change their software (a remedy that many of them may nevver have tried) or allow for their braindamage. On the other hand, there should be no reason why those who have asked to be treated as smart mailers shouldn't be treated just so (I seem to recall the UUNET folks saying that they will treat smart mailers as smart mailers when approached).
