For example, can file-sharing be implemented over a TIP? (I imagine if it could, speed would be slow.) The scenario I have in mind is a bunch of PCs going out over COM1 connected to a TIP that is then connected to a Sun Sparcstation via Ethernet. Some people here seem to think that TIPs in an asynchronous environment are the panacea granting access to all the goodies that a networked environment has to offer. I have my doubts. I think the easier way to go is to put Ethernet boards in the PCs and have them do TCP/IP directly, but maybe I'm wrong. Please reply to me and I'll summarize to the net if there is sufficient interest. -- Bitnet: pmrcjdb@uchimvs1 Internet: cjdb@midway.uchicago.edu
