This also causes another thicket: if DBASE is held non-copyrightable, which versions are or are not protected, and does the loss of protection include the manuals or just the software. If this is upheld, I for one might go over to the copyright office and see about getting a copy of the source listing, whatever they have there. - --- Opus-CBCS 1.14 * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417.0) ------------------------------ Date: 12-21-90 (07:33) To: PAUL ROBINSON Subject: DBASE COPYRIGHT From: FRANK MALLORY PR> Don't expect to be able to make copies of DBASE until the court PR> decision goes all the way to certiorari and either the Supreme Court PR> rules on it or declines to decide. Not only that, but anything you write for a Rainbow comm port will work on an IBM with FOSSIL. A friend called last night DH> and said that he picked up a cpu only and the case has 'Rainbow 190' on DH> the front instead of Rainbow plus. It has a hard drive in it. >That was DEC's attempt to promote the Rainbow as a workstation. As I >recall, it had no additional features over a fully loaded 100+. I think that was the one that was bundle with the 'Rainbow Office' software, WPS+, some networking, other neat things that you couldn't use without a megabucks VAX.
