OK, OK, I get the picture. DRAM with software refresh will cause the
entire list to hate me or, worse, not use the board. :-) Fine. It will either
use ONLY SRAMs or else have a "proper" DRAM interface. I'm trying for the
latter; please be patient with a software hack who's impertinent enough to
think he can make a functional block of silicon and copper. 

Thanks to all who sent PAL equations, design tips and even the bits of
"omygod-don't-do-it!" mail that helped me come to my senses.
