This is a home machine that I use for personal computing, but have a uucp connection with Athabasca U. I have an intermittent problem on tty2A with an external Hayes compatible 2400 baud modem. I have been runing this 386-20 for almost 2 years with no problem for dialin users (very few -- some uucp). About 3 weeks ago I started getting the message: serial: ERROR garbage or loose cable on dev 8 port shut down I switched modems, switched cables, then put in a new serial card. To no avail. After I switched the card, I thought it was cured since I had several calls in sequence without the message. Then for no apparent reason the error occured again. No problem dialing out, even after the error. Any ideas? -- Louis Schmittroth, Computer Science, Athabasca University
