This may be a naive question, but...

I need an estimate of the number of laboratories involved
in molecular genetics for a proposal I am writing.
I would prefer a breakdown by size of laboratory, nationality,
and by percentage funding by the Human Genome Project,
but I'd be happy just with a total number for either the US or the world.
I'd be ecstatic if you happened to have a pointer to a published number.
