I cannot connect to ANY modem at speeds greater than 2400 baud. I even tried the Hayes bulletin board and had problems with that. The symptoms are either a quick loss of carrier, with the message 'NO CARRIER', a connection is made and then the modem just 'hangs'. I have tried several sites known to have Hayes Ultra 96 modems, and could only connect at 2400. The problem is even worse if I try to connect to a Telebit TrailBlazer modem. Although I can connect to the Telebit using a Hayes compatible modem (ViVa) at 2400 baud, for the life of me, I can't get the Ultra to successfully connect at any speed! Is there anyone out there that has experienced the same problem(s) with an Ultra? And found a solution? Could it be the serial cable (is a special cable needed for the Ultra) ? Kermit? the NeXT cube? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sal Cataudella -- Sal Cataudella Internet: salc@alfred.shearson.com UUCP: ...!uunet!slcpi!alfred!salc (212) 464-3871
