I have run into some strange behavior of /usr/bin/uucp recently which I cannot
explain so I'm turning to your UUCP expertise for help.

If I start with zero length L_stat and R_stat files and run /usr/bin/uucp to
initiate a remote file transfer, uucp removes the /usr/lib/uucp/R_stat file.
The following is a log which demonstrates the problem on my IBM Xenix 1.02
system (Microsoft Xenix 3.0), which basically runs UUCP version 2:

    % umask
    22

    % id
    uid=4(uucp) gid=4(uucp)

    % pwd
    /usr/lib/uucp

    % ls -dl /usr/lib/uucp
    drwxr-xr-x   2 uucp     uucp         640 Jan  5 21:15 /usr/lib/uucp/

    % ls -il ?_*
      110 -rw-r--r--   1 uucp     uucp        137 Jan  5 21:07 L_stat 
      498 -rw-r--r--   1 uucp     uucp          0 Jan  5 21:05 L_sub 
      103 -rw-r--r--   1 uucp     uucp          0 Jan  5 21:12 R_stat 
      475 -rw-r--r--   1 uucp     uucp          0 Jan  5 21:06 R_sub 

    % /usr/bin/uucp -m -x9 convex!~/piziali/x ~

It appears as though uucp fails to create a file system link to
/usr/lib/uucp/R_stat.  A second symptom of this UUCP problem are the following
messages on the IBM PC-AT console each morning:

    no file
    no file
    no file
    no file
    no file

They appear to have been displayed once per hour, each time uucico is run.  It
apparently doesn't like to see /usr/lib/uucp/R_stat missing.
