Gee, I guess they do....I never thought about it before. I've worked for companies that maintain and compile mailing lists, and transfer them from one format to another...it's a big business, and their lots of ways to get the info. You wouldn't have to scan the phone book, for instance: if you wanted that database badly enough, you could just hire the data entry folks and enter character by character.
