This has abolutely nothing to do with the agents' abilities to handle the hardware properly; as someone who's lived in the computer underground (or at least at the fringes, of late) for six or seven years I can safely say that any damage to your hardware when you get it back from the Bureau is *intentional*. It happens too consistently in cases where hardware is seized as "evidence" and then returned with no charges filed to be mere all-thumbs coincidence. They are trying to teach you a "lesson".
