Do you keep your Kickstart disk write-protected? If so, there is NO WAY that
a virus can infect it; the disk drive itself has the final word on whether
a disk can be written to. If the hole is open, NOTHING can make the drive
write to the disk, even if it appears to be writing to it.

I'd suspect some hacking...or use another copy of your Kickstart disk.
