Payment is generally when the article is actually published, not on acceptance like in the 'olden' days. If you ever decide to write, watch out for things like "binders". Byte magazine in the early days used to pay a $20-25 binder that would reserve an article for their magazine, but you wouldn't be paid until the article was actually published.... but there was no guarantee that the article ever would be used! In any event, actuall payment scales will vary with the size of the magazine, typically in the $25 to $100 per page range from what I remember.
