The files are 1280 x 1024 in resolution. My question is, for a monitor with square pixels, what would be the appropriate aspect ratio? 1280/1024 = 5/4; thus the files' aspect ratio is 5:4. Is that really what you meant to ask, though? Don't you want, for example, to preserve the circularity of circles? Qustion #2..the machine I'll be displaying this on is a Hewlett Packard unix based workstation with display hardware to support the above rendered files..does anyone know of a unix utility publically available for displaying rgb files? Source code would be preferable in order to make any needed changes. Knowing the HP model and graphics adapter would help (i.e. HP9000/300 series, with or without radiosity accelerator card, etc.). Probably your best bet is Jef Poskanzer's ``pbmplus'' package which converts to/from most common graphics formats and is available in source form; I believe this package accompanies the standard "X" distribution from MIT (and, thus, is available at most archive sites (e.g. uunet.uu.net, tut.cis.ohio-state.edu, etc.)) but pbmplus is also available at ftp.ee.lbl.gov (IP 128.3.254.68). If you have the HP system, it should have been accompanied by display software with which one of the several pbmplus conversions should be compatible. If you still have difficulties, you might try reposting your questions to comp.graphics.general for more help. Thad Floryan [ thad@cup.portal.com (OR) ..!sun!portal!cup.portal.com!thad ]
