Message-ID: <2272@esunix.UUCP> Date: 4 Jan 91 03:39:04 GMT Organization: Evans & Sutherland, Salt Lake City, Utah Lines: 28 I don't normally subscribe to this group inspite of owning a PC 6300. I'm also sure this has been requested many times; I still audaciously request information on how one can install a real VGA video card on my lowly little machine. The story so far: I did install a TAXAN Gold card in my machine about 3 years ago. It was supposed to support both EGA and the AT&T 600x400 mode and came with an adapting cable to support the 318H (I think) color monitor I have. The card does support EGA but only if the program goes through BIOS (i.e. not register compatible). I never was able to get it to run 600x400 mode though. I'm tired of programs which won't run because they don't use BIOS calls. I want to upgrade to a third-party VGA card. How do I do this? I seem to remember installing new BIOS chips in order to run the TAXAN board - rev 1.43 sticks in my mind but that may not be correct. I also remember replacing some sort of 14-pin DIP chip to disable the AT&T video board. Is my machine ready to plug in a VGA card? What about the fact that the monitor I have is TTL RGBI; do I have to chuck it and get an analog one? Are there any VGA cards to be recommended or flamed? A reply would put me eternally, immediatley, and forever in your debt - just don't ask for any money. Keith Rogers Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. utah-cs!esunix!krogers esunix!krogers@cs.utah.edu
