Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "get update to work from disk, nor from tape." But you're right, the 7.0 update does not understand the c++ tape. The tape seems to be an ordinary tar archive and as you report, just tar'ing the stuff off seems to work fine. Sorry for the delay in responding but I just got around to trying our C++ tape.
