Unlabeled tapes with FIXED, VARIABLE, or UNDEFINED records? In the labs here before we got our network working and could use DSCOPY, we wrote CPIO tapes on MPE. I've heard of a program to read STORE tapes on HP-UX but never used it because of naming convention conflicts. I'm not sure if this would solve your problems or where these programs are.
