I'd like to recommend an _excellent_ ``semi-integrated'' software
package for laptops --- and it's available for less than $15.00! 

The Easy-Working TRI-PACK (Spinnaker Software, One Kendall Square,
Cambirdge, MA 02139) consists of three separate programs which can
exchange data: The Writer (wordprocessor with spell-check), The
Planner (a spreadsheet), and The Filer(a database).  The Tri-Pack has
all three programs for $14.95 list! (I got mine on sale for $9.49.)
Documentation is on disk --- it's formatted for a standard printer and
each program has a browser for using it on-line.  I use all three to
help administer a Coast Guard Reserve unit on a GRiDLITE portable from
GRiD systems.  I keep one program on each of three disks and swap back
and forth as I need to.  (I could put them all on one disk, but I like
to keep the documentation on line.)

Bottom line --- they're powerful, easy to use, and you can't beat the price.
