I am looking for an system call or a kernel variable that gives the the
version of the SUN OS (4.0.3/4.1).  The kernel symbol "_version" points to
a string "SunOS Release%d: no".  So it looks like the version number is
stored elsewhere...

I do not want to parse the /etc/motd file.
