HELP - Any font guru's out there...

I am trying to 'make' a copy of the Sony font 8x16rk...

When I run it through 'bdftosnf' i get a scratchy font that display's 
backwards...  Fine, so fix it with the 'bdftosnf' flag -l
But the damm thing still comes out scratchy, looks like the
bits are getting mixed up..

I think we are using a R4 font and a R3 copy of 'bdftosnf' an a 
Motarola system

...ALERT --  PANIC

Whats going on!????
