I have been using the PIR sequence database with the fasta package.
Unfortunately, I have software
neither  for using the extensive indices,
nor for extracting sequences from the dat files. Is there any Unix-based
software--preferably SysVR3 of Irix--that would be suitable
for any of these tasks? I would especially like to locate any freely
distributed 
software.
