There does exist at least one Usenet personality who handles his GEnie mail by having his computer phone GEnie, download all incoming mail, and put it up on his Unix box for him to read and process there; his system also takes all his outgoing mail to GEnie correspondents, phones GEnie, and mails it within GEnie. So it's possible, of course, for someone with both a GEnie account and a mail address reachable from the Internet to do such a thing for his or her own correspondence, and at least one person does it, so I can't answer the question with a simple "no," but that's what I think Mr. Gossman meant. GEnie said over a year ago that a mail link was in the works, but nothing has happened yet. I'm not sure whether to believe them about it in the first place.
