HiI just purchased a copy of Cakewalk 4.0 (for IBM PC) and have been
having bad luck with it, especially when reading .MID files.

I know this will seem quite obviuos, but have you called Twelve Tone
systems?  (The manufacturer).  The tech support line will be able
to tell you right away if your problem has been detected on other
machines.
