If food runs low & you have no food in your towns, disband your troops, find a
boat if necessary and roam the landscape with just your captain killing sheep.
 Then you can go back to your troops (they didn't consume any food while
you were wandering around) and recruit them all again from your base
tower.  Be careful of killing sheep in towns and sometimes the captain attacks
in his own if the town is aggressive, sometimes.  Watch out for armies
attacking your home tower.  If they have taken over your tower while you were
away, your troops (one by one) will be killed as they arrive home!

If you see a captain on his own wandering around near you, attack him
aggressively otherwise he stays alive and wanders around very ill.  Once he is
dead take all of his food and equiptment, I once found over 2000 food.
