Hi there -- sorry that you are having problems -- here are a few thoughts:

1) Did you check /tmp/update.log ? -- Did any errors occur when processing the
   following filesets:

   LANLINK LAN_BLD ARPA NS_SERV NFS_INCL NFS_RUN

   Do you have them loaded on your system ? Did they show up when you selected
   all filesets ?

2) The fact that your networking commands core dumped with "bad system call"
   says that the networking code failed to get genned into your kernel. Check
   your dfile in /etc/conf -- does it have the same lan entries as say 
   dfile.full.lan or dfile.maxservr ?
