Thank you to the people who responded. It turned out that the modem was in
fact bad... We replaced it and it is now working beautifully.

I just got a Trailblazer T1600 and am using it for our Usenet feed. It had to
be the most easily modem I have ever used. Highly recommended.

Again, thank you for the responses, now with a little bit chewing gum and
wire I think I'll be able to keep these machines going a little longer :-).
