If you are running BSD UNIX, then try a book called UNIX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION 
HANDBOOK by Nemeth,Snyder, and Seebass printed by Prentice Hall. It's a very 
good book to start learning about the UNIX system and how to maintain it.
