Summary: Methods to make backups easier Keywords: TLZ04 DAT dump restore backup incremental Message-ID: <1991Jan10.140524.23281@unvax.union.edu> Date: 10 Jan 91 14:05:24 GMT Organization: Union College, Schenectady, NY Lines: 20 I am looking for suggestions to make backups easier. We have a DECsystem 5000/Model 200, Ultrix 4.1, TLZ04 (DAT) drive. Since the capacity is quite high (1.3 GB), it seems foolish to use separate tapes for each file system. I am looking for ways to allow operators to do incremental backups without needing to know about /nmrt?h and using mt (I know, a tall order). If there are scripts/programs out there to automate this task, I would appreciate hearing about them (currently full backups are not a problem). A second question is whether or not it is necessary to shut down to single user mode to do the backups. Finally, any hints/suggestion to maximize use of this drive would be appreciated. -- Eric M.
