As far as I know, the problem that occurs with the ATI drivers in 256-color modes (640x480 and 800x600) ONLY manifests itself on boards with the earlier BIOS chips (V3 and maybe V4). The newer boards do not have this problem, namely a splitting of the screen and a flicker in response to some unknown operation (perhaps when the mouse cursor is near the top of the screen). So those who claim that the ATI drivers work fine on their machines probably have a newer board installed. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A DRIVER RELEASE NEWER THAN THE ONE ON CICA (dated 11-5-90) PLEASE LET ME KNOW OR POST IT TO CICA. THANKS.
