Photocopy the 4 pages and smail them to ya (most likely) Sounds good to me, and would be most appreciated. Smail to me at 3306 Cleveland Ave., Aliquippa, PA 15001. I've heard fragmentary oral legends on the subject for years, but never seen it compiled. >> Most interesting session with folks from Canadian Hearing Society. WR> Looks like I miss all the good meetings. Tell me more about it. Dynamic group, and apparently not so fragmented as the H-I population in the states. Deaf and HOH seem to be able to work together quite effectively there (or so they say). Society also dispenses aids and ALDS which generates some cash flow. (Can you imaging the outrage if that was attempted here.) They have produced several educational videotapes underwritten by corporate groups in Canada. One I thought particularly good was shown at meeting. Produced cooperatively with Royal Bank of Canada, it was educational tape to train public contact personnel (in banks, retail stores, etc.) how to deal with hearing impaired patrons. Bethesda office has copies of all the Canadian videos, and I'm sure you could shake them loose if you would like to view them. Interesting sidelight on the "International Symbol" logo (the ear with the slash). They make extensive use of symbol in their literature, and it has been copyrighted world wide as the "Internatioinal Symbol Symbol of Hearing Impairment". Would be happy for SHHH to use their materials here but there is a problem. It seems US is not a member of international copyright body, but has separate copyright law. The symbol was copyrighted in US by N.A.D., and there is objection to use as symbol of "Hearing Impairnment", since by their standards deafness is not an "impairment" but a "culturally defining condition". So it seems that the rest of the world has their act together better than we do. We are gonna have a real tough time establishing our access rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act so long as our Deaf Cult friends keep insisting that deafness is not a disability. But SHHH and CHS will work cooperatively to make ACCESS 2000 a North American program. I think we can learn much from each other. BTW, any idea when Anniewich will return from the "BIG D". Things seem awfully sedate on the boards while she is away. And especially since Karen (V*) has vanished. I hope they are both okay. WR> Best wishes to all for the holiday season. Same to you, and Ret adds "Boas festas e Feliz Ano Novo." Jack ...
