Uhh, i doubt it. In September 1974, VF-1 Wolfpack and VF-2 Bounty Hunters deployed F-14's for the first time on the USS Enterprise. Previous test cruises with the aircraft had been made, but none that went anywhere near southeast asia. On that first cruise, the Enterprise briefly covered the evacuation of Saigon as the war ended. Thus, it is possible that F-14's flew over the country of Vietnam at some point...but I really doubt that they did. I don't recall US forces making any strikes at that time. They were most certainly NOT deployed earlier when the strikes against North Vietnam were going on. The first F-14 flew Dec. 21, 1970, and crashed 9 days later on the 30th due to a hydraulic line failure. The first carrier tests weren't until June 1972. We were quite disengaged by that time, i think. == George William Herbert == * UNIX ate my last .sig, Waiting for Plan 9! * == JOAT for Hire: Anything, == ######### I do Naval Architecture, ########## == + Anywhere, at my price. + == # Spacecraft Design, UNIX Systems Consulting # == + gwh@ocf.berkeley.edu + == # RPG writing/development, and lots of other # == + ucbvax!ocf!gwh + == ## random stuff, of course.
